Hey there, I’m Kim-Yen Nguyen. I’m a photographer working and living in Odense, Denmark.

My name is Kim-Yen Nguyen, and I have a master’s degree in Linguistics and Psychology from the University of Southern Denmark and the University of Copenhagen. I use photography to tell stories of everyday life and portrait memories of people.

Through life itself, I’ve come to embody the lesson of the Thomas Theorem: “If people define situations as real, they are real in their consequences.” The way we reflect on our stories and choose to define them shapes everything.

This insight forms the foundation of my work and guides all my collaborations with others.

“if mankind define situations as real, they are real in their consequences”

I prefer black & white in photography as it leaves the spectator with imagination on the images colors, origins and moods. My favorite method is the minimalistic approach to shut out all noises - often only with lights and pozing.

As a photographer, I’m very dependent on my eyes, but as a visual artist it is crucial that my imagination never leaves my body. Eyes are for technical adjustments. Imaginations are for deep dives and chasing the hidden images beyond.

Exaggeration is yelling. Less is more.
